Scholarships presented at Hillside High Awards Ceremony by the Bull City Alphas
The Beta Theta Lambda Chapter was well represented at the Hillside High School Awards Ceremony on May 21, 2015. Beta Theta Lambda sponsors multiple $1000 scholarships to students in Durham and Orange Counties who represent high scholastic aptitude, community involvement, and are active within their school community. High schools within the area are contacted by the scholarship committee to promote the scholarship to applicants. The scholarship committee receives and reviews applications to ensure that quality students are considered for the award. Brother Simm Long, who is serving in his last year as the scholarship chair, presented one $1000 scholarship to a deserving Hillside High School student.
Real Life 101, a 501(c)(3) organization, provides college scholarships for selected inner city, African American males who are graduating from high school. Real Life is a national program with the mission to improve the negative statistics relative to African American males in America. Each scholarship student receives an annual scholarship of $1000 for up to five years, a laptop computer equipped with software, and a certified Real Life Mentor. Brothers of Beta Theta Lambda have also partnered with Real Life 101 for the past 3 years as mentors to the award recipients.
