A Moment in Alpha History: Dr. Walter M. Brown Alpha Academy
On Saturday, January 15, 2022, the Beta Theta Lambda Chapter launched the Dr. Walter M. Brown Alpha Academy. Established in 2019, Beta Theta Lambda saw the need and heard the call to develop an academy to target middle and high school minority males to provide mentorship and guidance as they prepare for college and adulthood. Dr. Walter M. Brown Alpha Academy aims to enhance character, develop leaders, and promote academic excellence all-while engaging male youth in appreciating their cultural heritage and civic responsibility. We also want to further support the fraternity’s National Programs of “Go to High School, Go to College” and “Project Alpha” to offer enriching experiences for young minority men to expand their network of like-minded excellence achieving peers and mentors, and to further develop skills through a variety of civic, educational, and cultural activities beyond the scope of the traditional curriculum offered in middle and high school.
Our participants have been designated as our young and older Pharaohs, who will also participate in community service projects and several workshops that will include but not limited to the following: Etiquette, Public Speaking, Financial Literacy, and the Collegiate Experience. The Alpha Academy is seeking young minority male who meet the following minimum requirements: ages 13-18 years, demonstrates ability to lead; exemplifies strong character, and participate in extracurricular activities. Pharaohs who have displayed tremendous growth throughout the Academy will have the opportunity to participate in our Souther Regions LDCEI, apply for scholarships (high school seniors), and recognition at the end of the year with a father/son or mentor/mentee banquet.
Brothers, your opportunity is here to serve our Pharaohs in the Alpha Academy providing 1:1 mentorship. As a mentor, you will be able to provide a variety of expertise, whether career or life in general, to help guide our Pharaohs in excelling in their desired academic and professional careers. Also, by cultivating strong mentor-to-mentee relationships, Pharaohs will also be guided through a series of seminars aimed to increase knowledge on health and wellness, education, relationship building, academic support, and being community advocates. Brothers are needed for mentorship and the academy needs your support. If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please click the link below and complete the mentor form:
